ECOLOGICAL DOMAIN
Luminescent
Ecological Domain seeks to reimagine the history of Seneca Village, a once prosperous Black and immigrant community in Manhattan that was evicted, flattened, and claimed by the city via Eminent Domain to construct Central Park. Our project acknowledges that this history of displacement not only marks an event of human injustice, but of ecological injustice, and writes an alternative narrative. One where the residents remained in solidarity their earthen counterparts, and worked in harmony with the wildlife to create, maintain, and preserve their community for generations to come. And so the project buries into the ground, and forges new programs for living and preserving native species, and creates a new expression of public common and living memorial above, defined by the shifts of the ground.
