The project in Colorado is one of a series of houses in different climatic zones designed for an Olympic artist from the twentieth century that specialized in athletic illustration and photography. Volumes are derived from using two dimensional silhouettes of athletes to define three dimensional space by subtracting the extruded silhouettes from a rectangular volume. the result creates strange intersections where figural and orthogonal volumes meet that blur the figure. the project is represented in a way that reinforces the interplay between 2D and 3D through it’s use of silhouettes, and by rendering the house in elevation, visually flattening its appearance. the project also suggests scalar ambiguity by misusing human silhouettes at the building scale, and is graphically represented with objects and textures being contextually displaced.
