The initial focus of the first semester is on creating a container for an existing vessel, an artifact for the Catawba people housed in the Penn Museum. The original container was designed specifically for a plan perspective point of view, and takes it's shape from implying relationships between the geometry of the Cairo tile as a bounding box and the vessel itself. The red series are studies in orientation, investigating the figuration that results from prioritizing the orientation of the vessel within the container, rather than prioritizing the containers orientation like the plan perspective studies. A final blue drawing revisits the original plan perspective drawing and misreads it as orthographic, producing new figures as a starting point for creating a new object, that now operates between orthographic and perspective in plan. The final 3D print is a three dimensional manifestation of the final study.
