FLORIDA HOUSE

The project off the coast of Florida is also one of the series of houses in different climatic zones designed for an Olympic artist. The house is composed of an exterior shell that provides shade and shelter from rain, and a separate interior structure that supports the walls of the house. The shell is derived from the exhaustion of linear geometric elements characteristic of Art Deco ornamentation, resulting in the articulated surface of the shell also serving as its structure. Since the shell is only comprised of a single module of timber for simpler construction, and it forces scale to be read through the proximity of linear elements as opposed to the width of individual timber members. The shell also provides a buffer from weather and sun shading.
